Alsace



This frontier area between France and Germany, situated on the west-bank of the Rhine-river, is definitively the most atypical wine-growing area of France.



Alsace and it’s capital Strasbourg are frequently considered to be the “Heart of Europe”.

The popular art and folklore, as well as the wine-making tradition, go back to the influence of its eastern neighbour Germany, which spanned an entire century.

Of course it is also the soil which favours the plantation of “grapes/cépages “ such as Riesling, Sylvaner, Gewurtztraminer, or the regional Edlzwicker.

A large proportion of the wine production concerns white wine.

For lovers of good and particularly varied food the choice ranges from “Choucroute” (a traditional dish of Sauerkraut and different meats) to fine river fishes .

Locally, the wines, always served in typical Alsace glasses, are not only consumed at lunch or dinner but during the day in the “Winstubs”, which are found in all the picturesque wine-villages.

The internationally renowned Trimbach domain and Zimmer, one of the oldest domains, are the best examples for combining tradition and innovation but plenty of small family-run businesses are equally interesting.
